Finishing a heartfelt song
With the help of my new Producer Josh Needleman I'm putting the finishing touches on a song dear to my heart about my father and grandfather. Their experience during and after the Civil War in Spain, and the character they demonstrated is what resonates with me and what I hope to convey in the lyrics. Here are the words...the final track is coming very soon.
FREEDOM (C) RAMON BERGUER 2016 Born on a windy day as the cold fog gripped the shore The sounds of war were barely gone yet the victors wanted more You were a boy in a world beyond control
Your father was a righteous man once trapped on the wrong side
Though taken on his wedding day he managed to survive
In twisted times his words were always clear
He said "I live my life my own way, fighting for who I am"
"And singing Freedom, Freedom, Freedom, Freedom"
In a world where rulers self-proclaimed what’s wrong and what is right
The choice you just had to make was to shrink or turn and fight
A nation trapped but you would not be bound
Books were burned and minds were numbed by the cassock and the gun
A learned man a mortal threat lest darkness be undone
In a time of silence your words were always clear
You said "I live my life my own way, fighting for who I am"
"And singing Freedom, Freedom, Freedom, Freedom"
After many years I can understand why saying “No” is to take a stand
A single word crying out no slander, no silence, no lies that deny freedom’s song
I hear the sound of children's play drifting through the park Born completely free to choose they’ll follow their own hearts
I hope these words are whispered in their ear
"I live my life my own way fighting for who I am"
"and singing Freedom, Freedom, Freedom, Freedom"
